Fife is Scotland's third largest local authority area by population. It has a resident population of just under 360,000, almost a third of whom live in the three principal towns of Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes. Kirkcaldy has Fife's largest population of 48,108 based on population figures from 2006.

It is popular to commute into Edinburgh from the kingdom of Fife, with buses, trains and driving routes a popular choice. On average, the commute from Kirkcaldy into Edinburgh will take you 50 minutes.
